The Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC) and its partners will today kick start a three-day high-level West Africa Conference in Accra, focusing on promoting equity in the governance of natural resources across the West African sub- region.
Running from today,Tuesday, October 14 to Thursday, October 16, the conference is being held under the theme: ‘Equity in Extraction: Addressing Inequalities in Natural Resources Governance, Critical Mineral Resources and Climate Change.’
The High-Level conference is being put together by ISODEC in partnership with International Development Economics Associates (IDEAs), the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and supported by Ford Foundation.
The event aims to address pressing issues related to climate change and to examine existing inequalities in natural resource governance across West Africa, with a particular focus on the impacts of climate change and the exploitation of critical minerals.
It is expected to bring together diverse group of stakeholders including researchers, activists, policy makers, civil society leaders, and trade union representatives.
Speaking to the media ahead of the conference, Mr. Sam Danse, Executive Director of ISODEC, emphasized that addressing inequities is crucial to achieving both environmental sustainability and social justice in West Africa.
Mr Danse believes that meaningful engagement among such diverse actors is crucial to developing long-term strategies for equitable resource management that supports both human development and climate resilience.
